As a result of intensive farming, the concentrations of pesticides in food have reached levels which alarm some health experts. Most commercially-grown fruit and vegetables are routinely sprayed with chemicals – some as many as 16 times before they reach the consumer. Research has shown clear links between the toxic chemical build-up in our bodies and a wide range of serious conditions. Rinsing under the cold tap has been shown to have no effect and cooking will not always solve the problem. With the "five-a-day" policy continuing, Ovoproducts.com saw an opportunity to provide the consumer with some reassurance.
Ozone is a naturally occurring molecule and biocide. It is 1,000 times more effective than chlorine, is effective over a significantly wider range of organisms and leaves absolutely zero chemical residue.
The result of the Food Chain CIC’s research showed that Ovoproduct.com’s method of treating fruit and vegetables with freshly-created ozone mixed with tap water neutralised pesticides and killed bacteria and fungi spores. As a result, the food would last up to three times longer after treatment, since ozone kills the bacteria that accelerate food decay. The resulting O3 Fresh machine is now on the market, the first of its kind in the UK.
