“With high demand for our Yorkshire-sourced fine foods, it makes perfect sense to continue to invest here.” Bernard Hoggarth, Chief Executive Cranswick plc.
With established supermarket chains including Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Morrisons and Marks and Spencer amongst its customers, Cranswick plc is a leading supplier of fresh pork and gourmet sausages to the UK’s food retail and manufacturing sector.
Boasting 12 sites and over 5,500 employees across the country, continued high demand for Cranswick’s Yorkshire-sourced premium foods has seen the company grow from strength to strength with a 20 year record of unbroken growth in profits and over £600 m sales in 2008/09.
Following a consolidation of the company’s sausage production facilities in the East Yorkshire area, Cranswick moved to its £7m new premises at Sutton Fields in Hull in 2004 where it now produces over 45 million packs of premium sausages a year, adjacent to the company’s headquarters, new product development and food microbiology laboratory.
Cranswick made a further £7.5m investment to expand its facilities on the adjacent site in November 2009 following an unprecedented 38% rise in demand for its gourmet sausages.
Originally established by East Yorkshire farmers in the 1970s to produce animal feed, Cranswick plc was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1985 and has since evolved to focus on the food sector. It is now a FTSE 250 mid cap company.
